Head Coach

Dan Lock

NCCP, 200YTT

Although a lifelong swimmer, Dan’s competitive focus growing up in the UK was rugby; regularly making regional teams; until a neck injury forced him to ‘retire’ at age 21. Despite this setback, Dan completed his studies and increased his time coaching and refereeing in both rugby and basketball. For over more than ten years, Dan has coached a range of age groups, competition levels and abilities; for organisations including schools, clubs and outreach charities.

After moving to Canada in 2018, Dan started competing in Open Water races, ranging from 3km up to 10km. After being immersed in the Canadian swimming community, Dan chose to use his coaching and teaching experience for swimming; attaining NCCP Swimming Level 1 Fundamentals Coaching Certification in 2023 and will be attaining the NCCP Swimming Level 2 Age Group Coach Certification in 2026.

Out of the water, Dan runs and cycles (though hasn’t tried a Tri yet) and is a certified Yoga teacher. As shown by his varied personal athletic history and coaching history, Dan enjoys focusing on developing well-rounded competitive athletes. He engenders a disciplined but fun approach to sports so that the athlete can achieve their personal goals, whatever those may be. By using a variety of cross-functional techniques, he hopes to develop lifelong swimmers and competitive athletes.
